Been Busy

It takes a little longer to do things due to this incapacity, so I am not on here as often as I should.
The 99th fanzine is done and in the post. Typically, on Monday 31st March, there was an increase in postage which no one knew about, adding 20 pence to each Europe / Overseas fanzine sent, and about 6 pence per envelope in the UK.
For many years, the stamps were bought 'over-the-counter.' Then, when these large gold stamps which are printed when required came in, stamps per-se, for security reasons, became rarer. So, I had to count how many stamps and at what price which I needed for the mail-out, and order them in advance, to stick on here at home.
As time went on, certain stamps were not available, again, due to security, as stamps have a value if stolen. So, the envelopes would be taken to Upton Post Office here in the village, for the girls to print and add the required stamps.
Now, all of the fanzines are taken there, and the girls stamp them for us. It is a job less for me, which at the moment I am grateful for.
Thanks to Jo, Kaz and Karen at the Upton Post Office, and my wife, Jane, for helping me transport the envelopes from here to there.

March Hare.

So, here we are marching toward the April fanzine. It has been started, and is looking great so far. It will be our 99th edition, in August, the 100th - whoever thought we would achieve this? Not me. When it began with issue 1, I didn't think further than issue 2, never mind issue 10.
So, it will be special, but other than having something like '100th Edition' on the cover, that will be that.
The main celebration will be seeing Lemmy fit and able enough to go back on the road. For 38 years we took it for granted that if the had a gig, then they would damn sure play it. Other than a few minor blips like the flu or something, Motorhead have never let us down.
We wish him all the very best, and a full recovery.

Alan's Multiple Sclerosis Mini-Documentary

From a feature in the local Daily Echo newspaper regarding my sufferance of multiple sclerosis, (MS), by reporter, Nicky Findley, Bournemouth University media student, Kelly Griffiths, made contact via Nicky. For their media studies, Kelly was the team leader of 5 who chose to make a mini-documentary to help raise the awareness of MS. Most people know those two letters, but many know little more. Some believe that it is catching, it is not. It is simply a comparatively unknown disease which affects the muscular and nervous system of the human body. Whereas one-in seven suffer cancer, one in five hundred are blighted with MS. Cancer, however, offers some degree of hope via chemotherapy, but alas, no such hope with MS.
It affects mobility as the muscles gradually lose their strength, so walking becomes the first difficulty. Eventually, depending in the severity suffered by the individual, one becomes bed-ridden, and is left in the hands of their carer.
I hope that scenario is a long way off, and I'm sure it is. But I must congratulate Kelly and her four fellow students for editing around 150 minutes down to a mere 5, they have made an excellent job of doing so, and helped pave the way to their future careers.
